Computational code development for parameterized study in the calculation of the thermal load in a refrigerating chamber

Cold rooms are fundamental equipment for the preservation of perishable foods, guaranteeing the maintenance of the quality of products in the stages of their processing and distribution. The correct dimensioning of this equipment represents efficiency related to the cooling and freezing performance, as well as the energy efficiency of the system. This project deals with the development of a computational code on the EES platform (Engineering Equation Solver) to determine the energy consumption of the evaporator unit (thermal load) of a cold room. The study presents parameterized results for the thickness of the thermal insulation and the inlet temperature of the products. It was verified that the discrepancy between the maximum and minimum operation regimes of the cold room, represents a reduction of approximately 20,19% of the energy consumption of the evaporator unit. Thus, it can be concluded that the parameterized study can result in a diagnosis of energy savings for cold storage projects.

Is the PBL (Problem Based Learning) applicable for the discipline of Dental Radiology? A systematic review

The aim of this study was to verify, through a systematic review, whether the active methodology of PBL (Problem Based Learning) is applicable for teaching the discipline of Dental Radiology. This review was carried out following the guidelines of PRISMA-P, using the PICO strategy to implement the eligibility criteria, seeking to answer the following question: “The PBL (Problem Based Learning) is applicable for the discipline of Dental Radiology?”. A systematic review was carried out in the PubMed databases (including MedLine), SciELO, LILACS, Web of Science and IEEE Xplore, as well as a search in gray literature in the electronic platforms, OpenThesis and Open Access Thesis and Dissertations, in addition to the manual search for cross-references of original articles. In addition, the Bollean operators, AND and OR were used, combined with the descriptors, these selected using the Descriptors in Health Science (DeCS) and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), to enhance the search strategy. The selection of studies was performed by two reviewers and eligibility criteria were adopted for the selected works. The PBL proved to be a teaching methodology that brings benefits for the training of dental surgeons capable of dealing with daily situations, being a viable and applicable alternative for the discipline of dental radiology. However, due to the uncertainties found in the studies those included, evidenced by the high risk of bias, further research should be carried out to reduce such knowledge gaps about the best method in the teaching-learning process.

Characterization of the seeds of a landrace popcorn (Zea mays L. subsp. mays) cropped in an organic system via Family Farming

Popcorn consumption is increasing progressively worldwide. Landrace popcorn (LP) are cultivated in family farming. The objective of this study was to characterize a LP in an organic system by family farmers. LP was analysed for the phenotypic characterization and race identification, germination and vigor, thickness/width ratio, circularity index, sphericity, diameter ratio, geometric mean diameter, volume, surface area, angle of repose (AR), hectoliter weight (HW), apparent specific gravity (ASG), thousand kernel weight (TKW), color, and classification according to identity and quality requirements. LP is of an indigenous Guarani origin and belongs to the Avatí Pichingá Ihú race. The variety yields a high germination and vigor and can be used as seeds. The dimensions and calculated indices had important variations among the grains, demonstrating a wide genetic diversity, typical of landraces. The low AR, associated with the dimensions, revealed the small size of the LP grains. Higher values for HW, ASG, and TKW indicated higher levels of vitreous endosperm, hardness, and starch content. The coordinates a * and b * respectively indicate the red and yellow colors while the low value for the parameter L * indicates the intense color of the LP. Corn was classified as type 1 according to the percentage of physical defects, however, the expansion capacity presented a value below the reference for commercialization. The potential of the studied variety is verified to be used by industries, mainly the food sector. Its cultivation can be stimulated by family farming, ultimately impacting grain production and promoting the rescue of germplasm.

Brand strategies development through sales promotion and endorsement of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in West Java Indonesia

Not all business in the market get customer attentions as they deserve, especially for Small Medium Enterprise (SME). It sparks fierce competition between SME to stand out from rivals in the market. Sales promotion is known as one of the most effective method which influence sales volume, especially for SME’s market. The second strategy is having endorsement from a third-party. Previous studies have identified impact of monetary promotion through online and in-store strategy to build strong brand identity without, and so as endorsement. However, there is still inadequate understanding of branding development particularly what specific promotions and endorsement works better for SME, as previous research are mostly based on multinational or big firms which have different characteristics with SME. Therefore, this paper examine the impact of two types of promotions, which are: monetary (vs non-monetary) promotion and celebrity (vs.non-celebrity) endoresement into better customer perceptions about SMEs’ product and brand.

Production and physiological quality of corn lineage seeds as a function of nitrogen doses and moisture at harvest time

An initial study on maize lines is essential to obtain hybrids. In the selection of strains, several parameters are observed to reach the crossing and commercialization. Some authors state that adequate nitrogen fertilization is needed to increase the corn economic productivity, considering N is the most required macronutrient by the crop. This nutrient performs diverse metabolic functions in seeds, contributing to their formation and nutritional reserve. Therefore, this paper aimed to evaluate the production and quality of irrigated corn lineage seeds under nitrogen doses and moisture levels at harvest time. The experiment was carried in the experimental area of the Goiano Federal Institute, Ceres Campus, Goiás State (GO), Brazil, and in its SAL. The experimental design was in randomized block, split plots, twenty treatments with five nitrogen rates (50, 110, 170, 230, and 290 Kg ha-1), and harvest took place with four moisture degrees (15%, 25%, 35%, and 45%). A maize line the PGAG10051L. Field and laboratory tests were carried out. The studied strain tolerates low nitrogen availability and has high efficiency in its use. The strain responds positively to the nitrogen increase in relation to germination percentage with better results above 170 Kg of N ha-1. The strain has high capacity to accumulate biomass in caryopsis even with low moisture content. Seeds harvested with 25% moisture showed satisfactory results for germination and vigor. It is recommended to apply 170 Kg de N ha-1 nitrogen dose split in four times for topdressing the corn lineage studied in this paper.

Overconfidence and optimism in business decision-making: Scale development and validation

This study aims at developing and validating a scale for measuring overconfidence and optimism in the context of business decisions, with an emphasis on instrument validity. Although overconfidence and optimism are two of the most researched biases in the field of Behavioral Finance, the limits, and intersections between them lack clarity in the available literature and research. The optimism and overconfidence bias items emerged as provisional responses to the following question: In what situations do the optimism and overconfidence biases manifest themselves in the decision making of managers? Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to create a 13-item scale to measure these biases in the behavior of decision makers. The results of the factor analyses have generated a two-factor structure. The model for measuring the biases of optimism and overconfidence in investment decisions demonstrated a good fit of the model, adequate reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Optimism obtained the highest average score, followed by overconfidence. The present study resulted in a research instrument capable of identifying the influence of overconfidence and optimism biases in managers' decision making in organizations. The questionnaire can be used in other empirical studies on behavioral finance, business decision making, and investment decisions.

The use of Nile Tilapia skin as an occlusive biological dressing for palatal wound healing: A case series

Recently, the use of type I collagen obtained from Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was proposed for the treatment of second and third-degree burning lesions and diabetic ulcers due to its occlusive and healing properties. The aim of this report is to describe the use of Nile tilapia skin as an occlusive barrier to protect palatal wounds after the removal of free autogenous soft tissue grafts. Two patients with a deficiency in the height of keratinized mucosa were indicated for treatment with free gingival grafts. The palatal donor area was covered with a Nile tilapia skin, stabilized by sutures. Seven days after surgery, patients returned for post-operative care. Patients’ reported outcomes were investigated by the use of a visual analogue scale and included pain, discomfort, impact on chewing and speaking. Analgesics consumption was also recorded. Standardized photographs were obtained to monitor wound healing. Patients were followed up for 30 days. Patients reported reduced pain levels, with low consumption of analgesics during the first week after surgery. No discomfort or difficulty in chewing or speaking was reported. No complications such as hemorrhage or edema were observed. These findings suggest that the Nile Tilapia skin may be an interesting alternative as an occlusive biological dressing in palatal wounds harvest of free gingival grafts.

Is sleepiness associated with anxiety symptoms in schoolchildren aged 9 to 11 years?

Childhood sleep-related problems can predict later emotional and behavioral disturbances, such as anxiety. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleepiness and anxiety symptoms throughout the semester in schoolchildren aged 9 to 11 years old. Children enrolled in a public school, located in Vitória de Santo Antão, Pernambuco, Brazil, of both genders, without sleep disorders, physical disabilities or cognitive disorders (n = 88) were evaluated. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was used to analyze mood. Subjective sleep assessment was performed using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and the Horne & Ostberg Morningness and Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ-HO). The questionnaires were applied in the morning at the beginning (P1) and at the end (P2) of the school semester, with the exception of the MEQ-HO. The correlation between sleepiness and state of anxiety in period 1 (r=0.16; p=0.21) was insufficient, as well as in period 2 (r=0.34; p=0.01). There was a low correlation between sleepiness and anxiety traits in period 1, while the correlation was moderate in period 2 (r=0.48; p<0.001). The correlation between sleepiness and the trait and state of anxiety presented a low to moderate correlation in the positive and negative aspects of anxiety. The data reveal that the evaluated students present abnormal daytime sleepiness at the end of the school semester and such alterations can worsen the anxiety trait in the evaluated children.

Literature review: Pharmacotherapeutic follow-up provided to type 2 diabetic patients seen at community pharmacies

This review aims to present evidence as to the relevance of pharmacotherapeutic monitoring provided to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated in community pharmacies, in addition to knowing the role of community pharmacists in the control of type 2 diabetes and investigating the positive aspects of pharmacotherapeutic monitoring aimed at diabetic patients. This is a literature review carried out by searching for original articles in databases such as Scielo, PubMed and Lilacs. The inclusion criteria were: publications that met the proposal of the theme, complete articles, in portuguese and published from 2010 to 2019. The exclusion criteria were: incomplete studies, which did not meet the objective and theme of the research, in addition to books, dissertations and theses. The articles that made up the review showed that the main doubts of patients with DM were related to the times of administration of the medications. Other findings showed that there was good acceptability of the proposal for pharmacotherapeutic follow-up and that its applicability in private community pharmacies brings several benefits such as greater adherence to treatment, occurring rationally with improved clinical results and establishing a link between pharmacist and user, reaffirming the capacity pharmacist to carry out clinical activities in the private sector. This study made it clear that the practice of pharmaceutical care and good dispensing practices aimed at patients treated in drugstores can be achieved without the need for major structural changes in the establishment and without hiring additional staff.

The vírus of the market: Syndemic and the contributions of ecovillages to the reconfiguration of the human being/nature relationships

The crisis caused by Sars-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, is an ecological crisis. The agency of effective actions for its control and overcoming requires a systemic understanding of the phenomenon and the concept of syndemic is more appropriate as it encompasses such complexity. Thus, we discuss the rupture of sociometabolism between human being/nature in the midst of alienated relations of production carried out in the market and how the movement of ecovillages contributes to reconfigure the human being/nature relationship based on ecological bases. The agricultural and construction industries, which model the spatial distribution in the countryside and in the city based on the logic of capital accumulation, exert strong pressure on ecosystems and are taken as a reference in this investigation. The experiences of four ecovillages, through ethnographic-inspired research, reveal an organizational type that, once oriented towards self-sufficiency mediated by self-managed communal work, has the potential to reconfigure the human/nature relationship, mitigating the embarrassments of the market enclave and the consequences of the syndemic via polyculture practices, bio-constructions and dissemination of their ideals for their militancy and ecological education, while touching on the fundamental points of the crisis, that is, socio-environmental degradation.

Analgesic drugs: What quality of information is present on the Internet?

The internet enables the search for several subject types, including health and drug utilization. These information are spread generally without reliability and scientific basis, that can encourage self-medication and indiscriminate medicine use. This was a cross-sectional study, carried out through application of tools that evaluated the quality of global health information and the specific content about analgesic drugs on 98 Brazilian websites. Among the most cited drugs on websites, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (83.67 %), acetaminophen (47.96 %) and opioids (47.96 %) stood out. All websites described pharmacological treatment options for pain, however, most websites did not mention any adverse reactions or contraindications for painkillers use. Information on opioid addiction and tolerance risk was present only in 18.37 % of websites. Considering all the indicators evaluated, no website was considered to be of good quality, even those with a quality certification seal. These results showed important shortcomings on health and drugs information published on internet, which can lead to analgesics inappropriate use, adverse effects and even intoxications events. This reinforces the need to control this information and to adopt minimum quality criteria for the websites, aiming to minimize health risks, drug irrational use and to contribute for lay public’s safety.

The Lego® Serious Play® methodology as a strategy to promote autonomy and improve results in the learning process in higher education

The way in which both the School and the University are currently structured shows a model of education that has existed for over a century. However, this same model is unable to sustain the new challenges of contemporary society. This reinforces the need for the development and application of new teaching methodologies and methods, which favor a change from the dominant mental model to systemic thinking, autonomy, innovation and the solution of real problems that motivate learners for effective learning. The Lego® Serious Play® methodology fulfills these functions, but it needs to be understood and used. Based on this context, this study aims to understand how the Lego® Serious Play® methodology can contribute to the qualification of autonomy and, as a consequence, of the results in the learning process in active learning environments in higher education, since this methodology is totally innovative and disruptive, provides great gains in engagement and productivity of the learners involved, in addition to enhancing skills in creativity, communication, cooperation and solving complex problems. The present study takes a methodological perspective based on the action research method; in relation to the technical procedures used, the bibliographical research and the case study stand out; as for the method of approach, the hypothetical-deductive method was chosen. It is concluded that the Lego® Serious Play® methodology appears as an alternative to contribute to improving the results of the learning process in active learning environments in higher education. Such methodology encourages autonomy, systemic thinking and transdisciplinarity, in which the learner needs to know the 'whole', developing a systemic, holistic and global view of the facts.

Cooperative Learning as an active methodology in High School: Perception of students from a public school in the City of Milagres, Ceará

The need to develop teaching methodologies that are, in fact, efficient for the construction of knowledge is indisputable. In this perspective, there are indications in the literature that the cooperative learning methodology is configured as a viable alternative, which contributes to greater interaction between those involved and the development of social and cognitive skills. Thus, this work aims to analyze the perception of high school students in relation to the contributions of that methodology, outlining its positive and negative points. Data collection took place through the application of previously structured questionnaires following the ethical criteria of the research, in 1st and 3rd year classes, comprising a sample of 42 students, whose participation was voluntarily. The results obtained show that the vast majority of students are in favor of the teaching methodology in question, classifying it as a determinant for their learning process, as it improves school performance and promotes the socialization of knowledge. Therefore, it is concluded that despite the problems mentioned by some students, the use of the cooperative methodology promotes greater interaction among students, with significant results in increasing school performance and in the acquisition of social skills.
