Biotecnologias agrícolas e sociedade: disputas sociais e regulamentação dos transgênicos no Brasil (1985 2005)

In this dissertation we present an historical panorama of the introduction of genetically modified organisms (transgenics) in Brazil, its repercussion and the social debate about several controverse aspects of this new technological product. In front of every group s view, we argued regarding the ambiguous centrality of technology at the contemporaneous world, presenting the possible reasons of lengthy divergence among the several agents involved in. One central subject guides this research: why the genetically modified seeds still nowadays didn t have a satisfactory and definitive legal resolution in Brazil, in the meaning of regard the demands indicated by the civil groups? This debate was polarized between two groups whom not very dialog for don t agree with the opposed argumentations to their stands. In one hand, we had the genetically modified seeds defenders, like a part of the rural producers, the farming industry, the scientists connected to biotechnological research centers, speaking by the science and the national economics and developmental interests. On the other hand, we have the environmentalists, non-governmentalist organizations and civil groups defending a science s ethical posture, sustainable ecological practices, the small producers and the consumers rights. In the midst of the contest, the Brazilian government has manifested contradictory trying to conduce this political state of affairs mediating these several interests on dispute.

Uma cidade se faz de sonho: entre o real e o ideal: memórias e experiências na paisagem urbana de Uberlândia/MG (2000-2009)

This paper problematizes the social experiences lived by different workers in Uberlândia/MG considering some of the political intervention projects dedicated to reorganizing and making the city public areas more adequate, during the years of 2000 to 2009, more specifically, during the campaign Uberlândia without alms to prevent begging and the Project Olho Vivo - to prevent criminality. I analyse the lifestyle of a typical group of workers from Uberlândia beggars, flanelinhas , street salespeople, paper collectors and wagoners aiming to comprehend, not only how these subjects leave their traces on the city day by day, but mainly, how they reconstruct their values, meanings and expectations about surviving in Uberlândia. It s of vital value to investigate, via workers life stories, their way of seeing social relations without, however, losing sight of their daily struggle for the right to belong in the city, the tensions and resistances, the power relations, problematizing the ways their memories are elaborated throughout time. Amidst the scenario of conflicting relations, I prioritize the data analysis and daily happenings in the city, especially those narrated by the local press Jornal Correio as a way to perceive how the city of Uberlândia and its workers, as a consequence, are considered by the dominant class.

Por um fio : experiências de atendentes de call centers em Uberlândia/MG (1998-2009)

The present dissertation has the intention to comprehend the transformations in the work relations and life of thousands of workers in our society that happened, mostly, during the decades of 1990 and 2000, analyzing interviews with assistant attendants of the city of Uberlândia in Minas Gerais, and see how they feel and understand their work for these companies. The issue of time, techniques and technologies were dealt with the aim to comprehend how workers and their bosses have new habits, customs and values in society, changes which occur very fast in their lives, causing many times harmful consequences to their physical and mental well-being. Finally, the analysis of the process of the flexibility related to work by interviews with the workers, analysis of booklets produced by companies and the dialogue with authors of several areas of knowledge provided plenty of reflection relevant to the discussion about contemporary capitalist relations, emphasizing the assistant attendants of Uberlândia, once ―call centers‖ can be considered a privileged environment where the changes in life and work of different people can be noticed with great intensity.

Lazer, cinema e modernidade: um estudo sobre a exibição cinematográfica em Montes Claros (MG) - 1900-1940

The subject of this study, Leisure, cinema and modernity: a study on the cinema in Montes Claros (MG) - 1900-1940 , refers to an investigation about the genesis of the exhibition circuit of cinema in Montes Claros and about the different ways of leisure which were found on the public space of the abovementioned town. Another purpose of this research was to reflect on how modernity was configured in this county. The sources used in this research were of different origins. From a range of sources, one could notice that throughout the 19th century, between 1840 and 1880, Montes Claros had an important role in regional trade. Thus, the opening of new streets, the fruitful trade with neighbor cities, the installation of plant tissues at Cedro, the arrival of the telegraph and the display of the cosmorama (among other situations and events in the final years of the 19th century) represented the preeminence of urban underway in Montes Claros. However these different events had not patented merely economic changes. Concomitant to all these changes, it was found that some circus companies, itinerant theater groups (called mambembes ) and performances of prestidigitation which came upon the public scene of the small town revealed that the region of Montes Claros had no artistic isolation. The performances of the mamembes had prepared the public for the advent of optical and audio entertainment, and also for the cinema at the dawn of the 20th century, because they were close to the seventh art, since they arouse the shock, surprise, enthusiasm, excitement and rush. All these features correspond, thus, to stimuli similar to those coming from modern changes, such as traffic, machinery, transportation, city lights, urban clusters and different noises. The mediation of cinema and the inauguration of the theaters along with the building improvements and installation of modern projection equipment, the progress in Montes Claros began to be operated and became active. Thus, through the discourse of newspapers, the cinema became a reference of what was modern , civilized , progress and also a way of identification in order to evaluate the city as a northeastern metropolis , a northern metropolis , a polite society . Finally, one could notice that in the current economic environment of the cinema, which is characterized by the concentration of the theaters and of the economic resources, there is a small chance, especially in Montes Claros, of existing a traditional familiar exhibitor, who decides to build or adapt a place to film exhibitions and, for this purpose, signs a contract with a company or distributor responsible for equipping the film exhibitor house with films.

"Um voto pelo amor de Deus": religiosidade cristã e política; Montes Claros - 2000 a 2004

Desde el inicio de nuestras investigaciones, el uso de las religiones cristianas por los candidatos a cargos políticos nos despertó la atención y fundamentó el problema inicial para el desarrollo de la presente investigación. Tras el recogimiento de fuentes, tales como panfletos, cartas de pedidos, actas de la Cámara Municipal, entrevistas, entre otros, percibimos que tal práctica era marcado en la campaña de varios candidatos. Desde entonces ampliamos el foco de nuestras preguntas y de nuestros cuestionamientos, pues se era perceptible que los candidatos utilizan comúnmente la religión como una forma de conquista del voto, pasó a ser igualmente importante percibir como los representantes del clero y liderazgos religiosos percibían tales prácticas. Además, se volvió imprescindible comprender también la reacción de la población, especialmente de los electores, delante de ese cuadro. En el caso de los liderazgos religiosos cristianos, constatamos que el apoyo de las Iglesias Católicas y Evangélicas se daba de forma explícita. En cuanto a los electores, observamos al investigar los archivos de 2000 a 2004 de la Cámara Municipal de Montes Claros que, de hecho, la población demostraba ser agente de las relaciones políticas que, más que nunca, estaban en disputa. En algunas correspondencias enviadas a los miembros del legislativo sus signatarios demostraron que no aceptan pasivamente las problemáticas que irrumpen del cotidiano y, de esta forma, buscan resolver sus problemas exigiendo de los candidatos constantemente sus derechos. Interesante fue notar que, en la mayoría absoluta de las cartas de pedidos recogidas, comúnmente los ciudadanos usan también el lenguaje religioso cristiano con el objetivo de lograr realizar sus anhelos; generalmente un pedido de empleo. En ese parámetro, desde el análisis de la documentación arriba citada, la cuestión central de la disertación fue percibir en lugares y eventos políticos de la ciudad la presencia de la Religión, o de religiones las cuales, a ejemplo de otros contextos y temporalidades históricas de la humanidad, sirvieron para justificar, explicar, modificar, o mantener prácticas sociales. En otras palabras, el lenguaje religioso, generalmente ha sido utilizado en la búsqueda de resoluciones para problemas sociales. Esa disputa se encuentra ubicada en las diferentes problemáticas que nortean los objetivos políticos, instituciones religiosas y los demás ciudadanos que construyen la Historia de esta ciudad.

A revista e a propaganda: o projeto político-cultural do Estado Novo nas páginas da Ilustração Brasileira

Taking the magazine Ilustracao Brasileira, especiallu the 104 first editions of its third phase of publications may 1935 to january 1944 as the source and, at the same time, as a privileged object of research, this study has as main aim to examine the political propaganda of the Brazilian Estado Novo conveyed in the pages of this magazine. By focusing this propaganda content, the magazine Ilustracao Brasileira is presented as a research resource, as traces that make possible the construction of knowledge about the historical period known as the Estado Novo in Brazil s history. As the magazine is taken as part of research, it also becomes the object of research. From this perspective, I examine the content of political propaganda text and images trying to show how the estado-novista s political cultural project appeared itself formatted in the pages of Ilustração Brasileira. At the same time, I take the magazine itself as an object of study its history, project(s) chart(s), materiality in an attempt to show the place occupied by that publication in the history of the brazilian illustrated press and within the Estado Novo s political-cultural project.

This work aims to show the importance of traveler s reports, in the construction of a speech referring to the Pagan Greek society as a reference to the Christian understanding of otherness tupinambá. Thus, the image of tupinambá will be analyzed, and compared to the warriors of antiquity, passing on to the construction sites of the Indian war from models of other pagan universes related to the Christianity European family of five hundred. We will address the operation of travel literature as a model of writing, to speak of the unknown. The representations of war from their canons in the traditions of ancient epic and historiography will be analyzed, considering it with examples of Hellenism from five hundred.

Cena teatral e recepção estética: o olhar dos críticos para os espetáculos Trono de Sangue (1992) e Macbeth (1992)

In Brazil, since 1985 after the end of military dictatorship and the return to democratic freedoms - all segments of society have undergone significant changes, being observed also in artistic doings, especially in theater. If, before the productions turned their eyes mostly for the scenic composition of shows that prioritized issues related to engaging in an action against oppression established, now permeate the reflections by the trade issue, as well as the search for new conceptions of aesthetic languages .Within this perspective, the purpose of this study is the analysis of critical theatrical performances involving Macbeth (Fagundes Artistic Productions, directed by Ulysses Cruz) and Throne of Blood (Macunaíma Group, directed by Antunes Filho), both in 1992. Sought, therefore, raise discussions, within the historical perspective, allowing to understand the issues swathing the reception of the shows and their relationship to the contemporary theatrical scene.

Relações incestuosas: poder, violência sexual, moral e "artimanhas" da justiça. Uberlândia, 1940-1970

The purpose of this paper is analyze crime-processes related to cases of sexual violence caused by fathers against daughters with ages between zero and seventeen years old at the decades of 1940, 1950, 1960 and 1970, in the city of Uberlândia at the state of Minas Gerais. Were used registries presented on the records to examine the relationship between imaginary of fear, construction and deconstruction of the notion and concept of what violence is, speech and juridical actions, silence and obscurity involving incest, power relations that exist in these practices, among others. Studies was made about the existence of a moralist and conservative speech that seem to intend on reversing the roles of each individual involved in such crimes, in other words, to transform victims into defendants and accused into victims. In this context, was possible to discuss the role of forensic medicine in justice s performance before a sexual violence crime. Afterwards, the text brings an argumentation about a specific juridical record, which makes us think about how the appropriation of moral values that exists on our society was made by the juridical speech. And so, we can understand a little of how the legal processes works, how the juridical speech is created, and how the victims are in a certain way silenced.

É uma experiência dos pobres... : trajetórias de trabalhadores negros na cidade de Itumbiara-GO (1980-2010)

This study attempts to realize the movement of black workers among the various social practices that they have developed in the city of Itumbiara-GO since 1980. I tried here to take an approach that doesn‟t isolate these people, but to show how they seek to assert their interests, values, and thus put strain on ways to live in/the city, in the relationship maintained with other social groups. I understand that is in this movement of subject that the city is being formed. I also aimed to question images and project that have been developed in recent decades and which set Itumbiara at the idea of achieved city , city of progress , city for all . In this way, the goal was to place these perspectives in the same historical process that they developed within disputes, consensus, negotiations and contradictions, looking not just stay on the simple challenge of prospects which are thought as unique. Closely monitor how these black workers live this/in this city in terms of unequal conditions and how they deal with a common field of possibilities that establish in society, contributed much to the disclosure of individuals living their culture not only as a tradition and/or folklore, but as a way of life and way to fight.

Olhares sobre a Umbanda: o cultuar de orixás na e pela cidade de Uberlândia (1930/1940 e 1990/2000)

This work addresses the formation of Umbanda, and worship the deities in the city of Uberlândia in two stages: decades of decades of 1940/1950 and 1990 /2000. It is thus to study the yards from a movement created by the workers in the city of Uberlandia and as an expression of struggle, endurance, resistance and complicity in the face of dominant vectors in the city. It is seeking, through this work, to identify mechanisms of how the workers could, about a religion, to build experience and festivals, songs, colors, aromas, and thus spread through the city a significant amount of yards of worship of deities. Thus, we identified these practices a form of expression dealing with the city, expressed either as resistance and confrontation, or as acceptance and resignation by individuals practicing the cult of deities. It is, in short, to identify how and why many workers do, the terraces of faith, a significant space in which values, community, struggles, victories, defeats and a universe of feelings are experienced in every corner, in every flavor in each color.

O ciclo da lua do Grupo de Teatro Zabriskie: Luas e luas em Goiânia 1995/2011

The Zabriskie is a theater group located at the city of Goiania, near the Brazilian Capital, at the center of this important Latin-American country. This dissertation focus mainly on one of the main productions of this company - Luas e luas (Moons and moons), to understand deeply the process and techniques of creation of the artistic groupment during theirs eighteen years of existence (1993-2011). The study relates the group's own history with some streams and aspects of the dramas' history and the Brazilian History, traces the influences received and how it was elaborated in their artistic works and how this group relates itself with these specific panorama. I study the text and the performance in their various versions, and how the dramatists addressed the imaginary on the stage, and establish some aspects of the literary theory. Some dialogs are made with the Commedia dell'Arte, the techniques of the clown and some particular elaboration of the epic theater. With the study of the documents from the rich archive of this artistic company, I had acess to some aspects of the spectacle and the personal way taken by the participants of the Zabriskie since the first steps at Theatre-Café Zabriskie. Finally, I can understand the practice of this important theater group and how it configures their practice when they present drama for children and Brazilian schools, shaping a particular image of this professional company inserted in the state of Goiás.
